I've never seen this abbreviation. The phone number looks like it's from some foreign country, not America. Likely suffering a cramped wrist from painting the rest of the sign, the owner of the anonymous teriyaki&deli has decided that the end of the area code is just not necessary.

If you're from out of town and don't realize Seattle is 206 -- your problem! We don't need your business!

I bet there was no area code at all. Then some trucker stopped in, in a total fluster, on their way from Harbor Island. "I need an order of chicken teriyaki with spring rolls, fast! I have a load to deliver" The purveyor of quasi-Japanese lunches and no-longer-German delights said, "Well, you should have called ahead, that's why we have the number on the sign, but I'll get right on it." And the long-hauler of the American economy replied, "But I couldn't figure out if it was 425 or 360 or 206 -- and I find it socially awkward to dial the wrong number!" With no space left on the sign, the proprietor with a small advertising budget opted to insert the fewest number of characters which would convey his message.

I hope it catches on. If only Eastern Washington was 153 or something! We'd have 1,2,3,4. What were they thinking!?
